Using Alternative DNS

This is a Windows 10 based tutorial but it likely can be replicated to old versions of Windows easily.

DNS or Domain Name System – is a massive phonebook basically, of all the computers in the world, when you type into your browser NerdJunction.net for example your browser goes to the DNS specified normally by your ISP and finds the correct IP to navigate to to load the NerdJunction.net website from, if your ISP had a bad/outdated IP then you might face issues loading our website until the DNS propagation has finished. Imagine using a phonebook from 2018 but finding out the business you want to phone changed their number, it won’t be in the 2018 directory but the 2019 instead. ISP based DNS servers can be slow, outdated or sometimes just buggy. We recommend you use an alternative DNS than your ISP one, using Google DNS, CloudFlare DNS, OpenDNS, or even finding out what the fastest and most reliable one based on your location is could be the best choice!

To use alternative DNS select one of the linked providers above and find out their IPV4/IPV6 configurations to use on your computer.

Using a Windows 10 system you can right click the system tray icon bottom right, then “Open Network & Internet Settings”

or you can open the Start Menu and type Network, hit on “Network Status” then use the “Change Adapter Options” menu.

Now you need to right click on your ACTIVE connection be it Wireless Adapter or Ethernet you need to make sure to change the one that is currently in use, hit properties to open the dialogue box.

Once you’ve opened it you’ll want to hit on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)” firstly then Properties.

Now enter the alternative DNS values in the bottom two rows as given by your provider in this case we will enter the Google DNS values.

Once you enter them hit OK and head back to the dialogue box and this time hit on “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”

Again enter the values in the lower fields provided by your alternative provider in this case we are using Google DNS again.

Now that we’ve set our device to use alternative DNS for IPv4/6 we need to flush out the old DNS cache and clear our browsing data for best effect.

Using the Start Menu type cmd or Command Prompt and open up the black command line window.

Enter the line “ipconfig /flushdns” ensure the space between ipconfig and /flushdns and hit the return key, you’ll get a successful message.

Success! We’ve now flushed the DNS cache out for our new provider.

Now depending on your browser you’ll want to fully clear out the data on that as well, you can use the shortcut while on Chrome – CTRL SHIFT DELETE, this will bring up the “Clear browsing data” window. Select all the boxes apart from “saved passwords” to prevent you losing your passwords.

If you use other browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or similar there are easy ways to do all of them.

Microsoft Edge: CTRL SHIFT DELETE, select all the options, clear.

Mozilla Firefox: CTRL SHIFT DELETE, select all the options, clear.

Free Hosting?

Yeah you heard me, FREE hosting – available for only $0.00, yep free.

Checkout 000webhost.com – if you need a quick hosting platform for your website until you’ve got funds to continue your journey then this is the host for you.

You get two MYSQL databases if you require them but there are database limitations such as 200 tables OR 1GB in size – there are hourly limits on how many read/writes you can do to the database – but this is fair as it is free hosting so as long as you have a small enough script you’ll be fine or once you’ve fully configured your WordPress site you shouldn’t bump into the rate limiting.

There is the option to park or point a custom domain, even use CloudFlare in conjunction to get FREE SSL/HTTPS using the Flexible option on CloudFlare.

There is NO email inbox/webmail – you would need to upgrade for that, you get free email forwarding to your alternative inbox which is better than nothing, but it would be best to grab Migadu or Zoho instead!

You can host two websites or even a third? if you leave an honest review of them on social media.

They’ve got a community forum to help you resolve hosting related issues and 000webhost account issues, you need to troubleshoot your script issues yourself though and seek assistance elsewhere or you could upgrade to Hostinger where their premiums services are offered. There is a WordPress fixing tool which aids users who have installed cache plugins which are not supported.

North East Rusty

We’ve got a Rust server going if you’d like to join then search up “North East Rusty Official” in the server browser, join our Discord too!

The load in time is a bit long as this month we’ve picked a 6000 map size so you might be looking at 1-2 minutes load in or longer, apologies for that!

There are a few plugins that you might want to note the use of…

Extended Backpack – to enable this once you are in the game hit F1 then type “bind b backpack.open” and hit the return key then ESC to return to the game, now when you hit the B key your larger backpack will open.

Teleport to your corpse – players if required have a maximum 5 teleports per day to their corpse, to use this when you’ve died respawn first then type in the chat “/where tp” this will teleport you to your last corpse, you can also use “/where” once you’ve ran out of teleports to give you a general idea of where you died.

Skip Night, each night about 6pm you’ll get the chance to vote to skip night, half the server needs to vote for it to be successful, just type “/voteday” in the chat and your vote will be counted.

Horse on demand? You can spawn a horse in wherever you’d like at any time with no limits, just type “/horse” in the chat while looking at a clear piece of land and your horse will spawn! Remember to feed them!

Player list – you can type “/players” to view players without having to SHIFT, TAB using the Steam players option.

Apart from that there are a few more plugins enabled but won’t need any interaction from yourself when playing such as

Wounded Screams – allows players to scream out when they’ve been injured

Stack Size Controller – some stacks have been increased

Quick Smelt – is available to allow faster smelting

Night Lanterns – when night comes your base fire/lamps activate

Instant Craft – allows almost instant crafting of items

Furnace Splitter – automatically splits the best way for smelting

Enhanced Hammer – allows you to easily upgrade parts of bases

Cars – there are cars spawned around the map – drivable

Lighthouse Beacons are turned on, at night lighthouses will emit light to be more realistic

Information panel is active, a small player HUD is displayed while you play. Inbound is a plugin that displays when locked crates arrive, helicopters come out and air drops etc.

Death Notes, see who or what killed you and allow other players to see also.
